Imagine your Digital Avataar in Amazon Rain Forest, while you are from the comfort of your home able to live every moment of the journey as if you are physically there. You have options to travel, explore and re-live these magical moments multiple times with a bigger and better experience at the click of a button on demand. Isn’t this Awesome!!. Welcome to the world of “Metaverse” a 3D version of the Internet and computing at large.

Metaverse is neither a “sci-fi” movie nor a distant dream anymore, but a reality that will transform how we travel, socialize, communicate or do business soon. Have you ever wondered how this self-sustaining & infinite system will operate, continuously change, and be economical?

What’s interesting is that everyone is talking about the metaverse, fewer are talking about the “enablers” that will make them leaders (early disruptors) in this space. They will help drive a new era of opportunity, exploration, and freedom for every human on Earth & make metaverse part of general stream technology. DevOps & Cloud will be the fuel & engine oil in building the engine and body of the metaverse. It will be the deciding factor not only in who wins today’s race but who ultimately dominates this space tomorrow.

How does DevOps enable Metaverse?

Here are some pointers that DevOps offers to build, secure and maintain these massive virtual worlds.

  1. Faster time to Market — staying ahead of the competition

If you’re too slow or don’t pick up the momentum, you’ll only reach a few people and fail to gain traction. Or worse, if you’re too slow and wait too long, someone else might show up first, grab the market’s attention and you’ll lose.

In the metaverse world, the idea to go-live will be a crucial ability. Continuously introduce MVP (Market Viable Product), content, and capabilities, and win the first round of Metaverse domination. DevOps is an understood set of practices and cultural values that have proven to help organizations of all shapes & sizes improve their software release cycles, software quality, security, and ability to get rapid feedback on product development. It enables organizations to develop and deploy software faster and more efficiently; enabled by an end-to-end automated and integrated process, thus accelerating speed to market.

2. Bring Efficiency — keeping cloud expenses in check

Imagine the need for Mega infrastructures, super compute requirements, complex networks & web of integrations between disparate platforms and services. Multiply this by diverse teams, environments, and sandboxes and the techniques required to keep your cloud expenses in check. DevOps facilitates cost-effective distributed collaboration and provisioning while keeping cloud overhead in check. DevOps reduces the cost of computation by implementing policies such as spin down/spin up scripts that ensure you’re only paying for resources during known times of use.

Metaverse has been touted to grow at an exceptional rate but no company would want to lose an arm and a leg and go out of business.

3. Continuous Delivery — end to end automation

The scale of the Metaverse means no manual intervention and emphasis will be on end-to-end automation. To keep up with the pace and complexity of Metaverse development and ensure Continuous delivery, effective SDLC automation with NFR (Non-Functional Requirement) and FR (Functional Requirement) automated end to end with continuous feedback and real-time monitoring and auditing will be of the essence.

Continuous Delivery allows developers to continuously roll out tested code that is always in a production-ready state and can be released to production based on business approval.

In the end, I would like to sum up this blog by stating that technology is changing at the speed of light and DevOps is fueling the demand with its cultural philosophies, practices, and tools. With so much already achieved in the last decade and so much to achieve in years to come, the DevOps journey ahead will be exciting and full of surprises.
